Hi, everyone!
My name is Mrs. Pickard, and I am excited to begin my third year teaching at Lawton Chiles Middle Academy. (You may have previously known me as Ms. Whitehurst. I got married over the break!) While this school year will be very different, we will all grow together. One of my favorite writers, Maya Angelou, says, "Stand up straight and realize who you are, that you tower over your circumstances." While right now our circumstances may seem unpredictable or stressful, we are all resilient and capable of handling more than we think. My hope is that through the challenges this year may bring, you will discover valuable things about yourself and grow as a learner.
3 things about me:
1. I am married and have a sweet pup named Maggie.
2. I love playing tennis and being outside.
3. I spent a lot of my summer memorizing the soundtrack to Hamilton.
3 things you should know about this class:
1. It will look different, but it will not feel different. While your desks will be separated due to COVID-19, we will still have collaborative discussions as a class.
2. Bring highlighters or colored pencils! We will annotate several texts and having your own set of highlighters or colored pencils will be essential!
3. We will still find ways to have fun!
